The Opportunity of a Lifetime

Filed in Blog, La Vida — February 21, 2013

So.. I had this AMAZING opportunity.

There is this wonderful woman named Chris.

Chris wanted to go to Africa- she wanted a companion, and she knew that no one would be able to afford it.

She decided to bless someone with the trip and experience of a lifetime.

I was that person.

We went to Rwanda to visit Margie. Her husband is working with CMU to build a IT masters program in Kigali.

.

Most of my friends/family were excited for me-

but they were also very nervous for me.

.

You see, people.. myself included have this idea about what Africa is. I imagined it to look like the Elephant graveyard from the Lion King. People were worried about my safety, honestly so was I.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Rwanda is one of the most beautiful places that I have ever been. Rolling hills, fresh clean air, the sun always shining.

.

But the MOST beautiful part about this place… are it’s people.

Everyone remembers and honors their past… hard to think that this place was rocked by a genocide less than 20 years ago.

Having lunch at THE hotel Rwanda was so surreal.

We traveled outside of the city to spend some time at a school/orphanage. The kids remind me so much of the ones that I love so much in Haiti.

Quite possibly one of the coolest experiences we had…. We got to spend time with some women while they made their thread baskets. These women are truly beautiful.

Then things got all national geographic! I could totally travel the world and take photos of animals for a living.. it is so flipping amazing.

After Africa, our husbands met us in London for a few days.. I seriously was living in a fairytale.

xo.
